I spent 5 fantastic weeks at Exlinguo, 2 in Saint Petersburg and 3 in Novosibirsk. After 3 years of individual lessons out of Russia this experience proved to be ground breaking for my purposes. All the teachers have been very committed to supporting my advancements and they helped me a great deal to get closer to Russian culture, philosophy and ideas. All the materials provided to me were not randomly chosen but specifically tailored to my interests, fruit of an incredible back-office work. The really astonishing element of my time at Exlinguo was the feeling of being completely integrated in a community made up of other students, host families and teachers. All the extra-curricular activities, the lunch and dinner chats, the cultural happenings in the cities....everything went beyond my most optimistic expectations and I am looking forward to repeat this journey once again! This language centre was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad I tried it out. I only had two weeks available, but I would love to study here again in the future. I was in Russia for over two months and can't recall all the valuable moments because there were so many. But I think that both schools really pushed to help you with anything you needed. I had some personal issues to deal with in both cities and received so much support and help from both. I can't thank everyone enough. For anyone interested in learning Russian, this is the course/school to attend. At any level, students are pushed, encouraged and invited to enrich themselves with the surrounding Russian culture and language. What better place to learn, than in Russia? I spent one month at the St. Petersburg centre, hoping to improve over the summer as Russian is part of my degree at university. As an undergraduate, it was encouraging to be able to meet students from all walks of life, each with their own reason for studying Russian but all united by a shared passion for the language. The small class sizes (2-3 people in my case) and the fact that the classes were all carried out in Russian were a great aspect for me. Since my Russian classes at university are all taught in English, it was rather a shock at first, but as I got used to it I found that it was a highly effective way to strengthen vocabulary and grammar skills and I feel that I have improved a lot. I found the teachers' way of explaining to be very easy to understand and appreciated their skill for rephrasing firstly in Russian rather than taking the easy way out of translating straight away into the student's language. The teachers that I did not meet in my classes were also friendly and helpful, talking to students (in Russian) even during the breaks. The final report I received on my last day, summarising all the topics covered during my stay as well as providing personal recommendations of resources for further study tailored to my level, has been extremely useful. I have nothing but praise for Exlinguo! After a three-week stint last year, I returned to St Petersburg this year for another three weeks and added a week in Novosibirsk for yet another fabulous experience. All communication with the school is swift and to the point - the organisation runs like clockwork. Being in an eclectic group of Russian learners makes for a stimulating environment, all enhanced by very attentive teachers who know how to blend the interests and ambitions of the students. The lessons were demanding yet satisfying, and at times so animated and absorbing that nobody knew where the time had gone. The lessons were well thought through;the written material was at times even tailored to our personal situation as to prompt us to speak about our lives and reality. An indication of how good the school is can be seen by the number of students who return. Of the dozen or so students I met last year, three were back this year - all equally impressed by the quality of the teaching and the environment created at the school. If you want to maximise your potential to learn Russian, choose Exlinguo! If possible, I will be back!

From the moment I came across the ExLinguo website I somehow felt that this is the right language school for me. And although I went on looking for cheaper alternatives, I knew I had already made my mind. And from the first day at ExLinguo St. Petersburg I knew I made the right choice. The location of the school is perfect, the premises light, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated and the library is well stocked. The teachers were amazing; professional and organized, yet very kind, friendly, informal and approachable. In my group we were 2-3 and the last week I was on my own. They could have paired me with other students whose level of Russian might have been similar. But no, they left me on my own to help me to prepare for the TRKI exam, specifically focusing on aspect of grammar that I was not familiar with. Exlinguo is more than a language academy; It is a sanctuary of angels and saints. The patience and dedication of the teachers, it is something you will not find anywhere else. Learning Russian is not easy so as a beginner I decided to enroll on this course to achieve a rapid improvement in my Russian speaking and listening skills and to gain greater insight into the country, its culture and its people. The teachers were outstanding, they used a variety of techniques to support learning and concentration and they designed the course to be comprehensive and to provide all the tools needed to gain confidence and understanding in the language. The course exceeded all my expectations and I now feel far more empowered in using the language. As a bonus I made some very good friends with the other students and the combination of attending the course and exploring St Petersburg together made for a wonderful experience.

I would recommend Exlinguo to anyone who was looking to take a Russian language course in Russia. I had heard good feedback about the course before I went so my expectations were high, but I was still surprised by the standard when I arrived. Classes sizes were very small, the teachers made lessons enjoyable and challenging at the same time, and there were interesting excursions or lectures organised everyday. When this was combined with living with a Russian host family, it really felt like there couldn't have been more opportunities during the day to practice speaking Russian.

And the size of the centre and the total number of students there at any time is just right, so you have a chance to get to know everyone. A great atmosphere for making friends, which is helped by the varied after school social programme and weekend excursions. Highly recommended!

I only stayed 1 week and that was the only problem I've met during my stay! The staff is really friendly and welcoming, but they are really good teachers as well. I expected to become more fluent in russian and to speed up the learning process. I think those objectives have been met and even somewhat beyond my expectations. After less than a week in Saint-Petersburg, my skills were already dramatically improved. It's like everything I had learned before finally clicked together. I want to commend the teachers for their flexibility in dealing with the material and for their efforts to adapt to our requests. The language center is comfortable, with up-to-date equipment which makes learning pleasurable. My host family was very welcoming. It was a great boost to my russian language skills to talk with them. They were excellent cooks. Anyone who reads this to have an idea of what it will be like in Exlinguo / Saint-Petersburg : have no doubt that this will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life! Just do it!

The teachers are outstanding and have a lot of patience, even for absolute beginners. ALL of the staff - not just the teachers, but the admin staff also - go out of their way to make you speak Russian at all times. The organisation of the centre is exceptional... it is clear from Day 1 how things work. Unfortunately, I was sick a few days when I was there but I always knew Exlinguo was there for me at any time of the day if I needed it. I was set up with an excellent host who made my stay in Russia perfect for when I was not in class. The staff, host, even my fellow students, made me want to continue learning Russian. I will be coming back next year...guaranteed.

The school provided a very considered approach, taking into account what I knew and tailoring its teaching accordingly. The teachers were brilliant - they were professional and personable. The school being small and the students being motivated, there was a spirit of shared interest that was quite infectious. Choosing additional tuition in the afternoon, it made for some intense and tiring learning. In three weeks I made tangible progress. With so much to see and do in St Petersburg, the days were never long enough - a sentiment shared by my fellow students. It has been a most rewarding and encouraging experience and I was sad to leave. It has whetted my appetite for another stint to continue where I have left off. For me, I suspect, there will always be an infinity of Russian left to learn.

I'm extremely happy with my learning (and social) experience at Exlinguo St Petersburg and highly recommend the course. I wanted to improve my Russian as fast as possible and within 3 weeks and being a native slavonic speaker I improved 2.5 levels. The teachers targetted my classes towards my professional interests (economics and politics) which was fantastic. After-classes activities on the other hand get students to practise speaking Russian in an informal environment, which was also a great push. I came back to London and was thinking in Russian!
